The Navy released a Call for Applications today for the Academic Year 2016-2017 Federal Executive Fellowship (FEF) and the Politico-Military Master's (PMM) programs with applications due by August 28.

The FEF program provides fourteen lieutenant commanders, commanders or captains an opportunity to improve their understanding of the national security decision-making process through a one-year assignment at world-class, non-profit research organizations such as the Brookings Institution or leading academic institutions such as Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government.

The PMM program provides eight lieutenants, lieutenant commanders, or commanders a one-year graduate education in strategy and politico-military affairs at leading universities in the United States.

The education programs are key elements of the education portion of the Navy's Strategic Enterprise, which aims to develop and foster the Navy's 21st Century strategists. Graduates of these programs could serve in a number of critical positions related to strategy and policy, national security decision-making, and international engagement billets.

A selection board for the programs is scheduled for October. Primary and alternate selections will be announced in December, and selected officers will begin their fellowships or graduate education programs as early as next July.
