Executive Officer of Kandahar Medical Unit Relieved of Duty

The executive officer of NATO Role 3 Multinational Medical Unit, Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, was relieved of his duties by the unit's commanding officer, Capt. William J. Leonard July 14, following a command investigation into allegations of sexual harassment and a negative command climate.

Capt. Kurt A. Henry, an active duty Medical Corps officer assigned to the command as an individual augmentee, is being redeployed to the United States. Henry was originally assigned to the unit as an intensive care physician. Henry was designated as the unit's executive officer during his deployment.

Cmdr. Lori M. Thompson has assumed duties as acting executive officer.

The NATO Role 3 Multinational Medical Unit is the primary trauma receiving and referral center for all combat casualties in Southern Afghanistan.
