The U.S. Navy participated in the regularly-scheduled exercise, Reliant Mermaid 2015, from Aug. 9-13, in the Mediterranean Sea with our ally, Israel.

Quick Facts:
* Reliant Mermaid is an annual maritime search and rescue exercise designed to increase interoperability by developing individual and collective maritime proficiencies of participating nations, as well as promoting friendship, mutual understanding and cooperation. Reliant Mermaid also helps promote maritime safety and security in the region.
* The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Porter (DDG 78), along with maritime forces from Israel participated. Israeli Navy Sa'ar 5-class corvette INS Hanit (503)
* Reliant Mermaid is a regularly scheduled exercise and is not associated with or a reaction to any real world events.
* U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied, joint and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
