Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Lisa Franchetti hosted Rear Adm. Oliver Berdal, Chief of the Royal Norwegian Navy, at the Pentagon for an official counterpart visit, Aug. 6.
Chief of Naval Operations Spokesperson Cmdr. Desiree Frame provided the following readout:
Franchetti reaffirmed the Navy’s unwavering commitment to Norway, emphasizing their role as a steadfast strategic ally and a co-founder of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
During Berdal’s visit the two leaders discussed the strength of the U.S.-Norway naval alliance, emphasizing their commitment to enhancing interoperability, integration and combined capabilities to address shared challenges in the Arctic and the High North.
Franchetti noted the value of consistent multinational exercises in and around Norway, including this year’s Dynamic Mongoose, Nordic Response and NATO Steadfast Defender exercise. They also expressed their mutual commitment to improving warfighting integration and exploring new opportunities to enhance cooperation.
This was Franchetti’s and Berdal’s first meeting as Heads of Navy.
