Acting Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jim Kilby met with Chief of Staff of the Spanish Navy Admiral Antonio Piñeiro Sánchez for a formal bilateral engagement during the Sea-Air-Space 2025 maritime exposition in National Harbor, Maryland, today.
Chief of Naval Operations Spokesperson Cmdr. Desiree Frame provided the following readout:
The two leaders reaffirmed the strength of the partnership between the U.S. and Spanish navies and discussed opportunities to work together to increase interoperability with defense systems and through Live, Virtual, and Constructive training to enhance maritime security.
Kilby thanked Piñeiro Sánchez for the Spanish Navy’s support of U.S. ships and Sailors at Naval Station Rota to include expansion of helicopter maintenance and basing, and their partnership during exercise Formidable Shield, as well as their commitment to future exercises such as UNITAS 2025 and the International Naval Review 250 in celebration of the 250th birthday of the United States.
Spain is a vital NATO ally and shares a long-standing and strategic relationship with the United States.
