We come together this morning in solidarity to remember our twelve teammates and offer our support to their families, their colleagues, and their friends.
These twelve men and women are part of a roll call of honor. Their lives are defined by how they lived … and what they lived for. They were civil servants, patriots, and Americans, who believed in our country, our Navy, and our mission.
And although ten years have passed, we still carry the sadness of that day in our hearts. We will never be whole without our teammates – Michael, Kathy, John, Arthur, Richard, Martin, Kenneth, Mary, Gerald, Vishnu, Sylvia, and Frank. But we are inspired by their memory to continue the work they supported and build the Navy that our Nation needs.
Designing, building, and maintaining our Nation’s fleet continues to be of vital importance to our national security. So, too, is the work of the 86,000 civilian and military personnel on the NAVSEA team – represented here today by many of you in the audience.
The Navy cannot do its job without you. Thank you. Because of your unwavering support, the United States of America has the greatest Navy and Marine Corps team in the world.
And, this team – comprised of Sailors and civilians – is one Navy family … forged by our core values of honor, courage, and commitment. Together, we are steadfast in our devotion to our mission and to the people who accomplish it.
Ten years after that tragic day, let us all rededicate ourselves to the mission our twelve shipmates supported. Let us again commit ourselves to the values that they upheld. And, let us stand alongside their families, their colleagues, and their friends in celebrating their lives and cherishing their memory.
Thank you.
Adm. Lisa Franchetti
