Last week, the Navy announced that due to budget constraints and the current fiscal environment, Sailors were experiencing shorter notices, or lead times, for PCS moves this summer.

Moving to a new location is stressful enough, here is how the Navy is helping Sailors during this time.

Here are five things you need to know:

1. The Navy was able to make adjustments to parts of their budget accounts to help fund current PCS orders.

2. The Chief of Naval Personnel convened a working group of representatives from around the fleet to help improve PCS lead times. This working group made several recommendations to assist Sailors. For approximately 2,100 Sailors - they will begin training later than previously scheduled and the Navy will not recruit additional individuals to replace Delayed Entry Program Sailors who do not complete training. Navy Personnel Command will continue to issue letter of intent for overseas PCS moves - this means while orders might not be in hand, Sailors can start or continue the process of doing overseas and medical screening, dependent entry approval, passport applications and security clearance requests.

3. To assist with budget constraints the Navy will shift all remaining FY16 non-critical and over-manned rates to the next fiscal year.

4. Funding for all fourth quarter PCS moves is on the way. Navy Personnel Command will continue to work with the fleet to develop PCS phasing plans to fund priority moves and ensure the fleet is manned from this fiscal year and into the next.

5. The Navy recognizes that these shortened lead times limit Sailors' time to prepare for moves, and burdens them and their families. The Navy's focus and priority remains on manning the fleet, and taking care of Sailors and their families.
