AN/UYQ-100 Undersea Warfare Decision Support System (USW-DSS)

Last updated: 20 Sep 2021

Undersea Warfare Decision Support System (USW-DSS) is an Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) command and control (C2) system installed in carrier strike group (CSG) platforms (CVN, CGs/DDGs), Surveillance Towed Array Systems (SURTASS) ships, embarked Destroyer Squadron Staffs, and select shore nodes to include the Naval Oceanographic Processing Facilities (NOPF), and Commander Task Force (CTF)/Theater USW Operations Centers (TUSWOC) that enable the networking of ASW forces to collaboratively plan and execute ASW missions. USW-DSS contains applications for environmental analysis, collaborative search planning, force management, sharing a common tactical picture with networked tactical decision aids, sensor tracks and sensor metrics, automated and manual cross-platform track fusion, search execution measures of effectiveness, graphics storage, recall, and ASW briefing support. The applications also improve effectiveness by decreasing the time required to search an area to a desired probability of detection.

USW-DSS interfaces the Global Command and Control System-Maritime (GCCS-M), Link-11/16, the Surface Ship ASW Combat System (AN/SQQ-89), and on aircraft carriers, the CVN Tactical Support System (CV-TSC).
USW-DSS is a Phase III (Production, Deployment, and Operational Support) Acquisition Category IV-T (ACAT IV) program of record (POR). USW-DSS does not replace any system; it automates and distributes many of the legacy tasks that were previously performed manually. The system reduces tasks that were traditionally repeated at each ASW platform and automates search planning, thereby improving efficiency and effectiveness of acoustic searches. The current variant, Build 2 Release 3 (B2R3), has been delivered to 42 surface combatants, 10 aircraft carriers, 6 Integrated Undersea Surveillance System (IUSS) nodes, 5 training sites, and 3 shore sites. B2R3 is a software centric application that is loaded on commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) computing environments, including being hosted on the Consolidated Afloat Network and Enterprise Services (CANES) application on those platforms that have a CANES infrastructure. The next variant, Build 3, adds features and functionality improvements to B2R3 in iterative steps to include enhanced collaborative ASW tools, an Electronic Master Tactical Plot (eMTP), and expanding net-centric data nodes.
