Newport News returned to homeport after a six-month deployment in support of the chief of naval operations’ maritime strategy. Newport News and crew operate under Submarine Squadron (SUBRON) TWELVE and its primary mission is to provide attack submarines that are ready, willing, and able to meet the unique challenges of undersea combat and deployed operations in unforgiving environments across the globe. ATLANTIC OCEAN (Nov. 23, 2022) The U.S. Navy Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine USS Tennessee (SSBN 734), a Royal Navy Vanguard-class nuclear submarine, an E6-B Mercury assigned to the "Shadows" of Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron (VQ) 4 and an MH60R Sea Hawk helicopter attached to the “Proud Warriors” of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 72 conduct bi-lateral at-sea training in the Atlantic Ocean, Nov. 23, 2022.
