JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM (March 19, 2021) The Virginia-class fast-attack submarine USS Hawaii (SSN 776) returns to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam from deployment in the 7th Fleet area of responsibility. Hawaii performed a full spectrum of operations, including anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare, during the seven-month, Indo-Pacific deployment. Taylor Butler, an Olmsted Scholar currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Brazil, executes a diving maneuver aboard the Brazilian navy submarine BNS Tupi (S30), March 4, 2021. Butler embarked on Tupi for four days at sea to help increase the exchange of knowledge between U.S. and Brazilian submarine forces.
