Patricia Hogan, an internal medicine specialist, sooths an elderly woman during an operation aboard NAsH Soares de Meirelles near a remote village along the Amazon River in Brazil. Lt. Cmdr. Thomas K. Barlow, a dermatology specialist, left, and Cmdr. Carlos Marco, Manaus Naval Polyclinic Director, middle, performed the operation to remove a growth from the elderly woman's finger. Hogan and Barlow are members of a team of five U.S. Navy doctors who are engaging in a month-long humanitarian mission up the Amazon River.
