PORT HUENEME-Calif. -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center (EXWC), Director, Utilities Engineering & Management, Bill Anderson, answers questions from NAVFAC Commander and Chief of Civil Engineers, RADM Bret Muilenburg regarding the reversible Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) system. The system is the largest of its kind (50KW scalable to 250KW) using a technology called a “reversible solid oxide fuel cell” to store energy from renewable resources (including wind and solar), producing clean, zero-emissions electricity. Michael Cruz ensured the success of this new technology as Project Engineer with the electrical engineering assistance of Yutaka Sugiyama. Muilenburg returned to NAVFAC EXWC April 5, for the first time since becoming NAVFAC’s Commander last October. During his visit, he briefed his NAVFAC mission and vision contained in the recently published Strategic Design 2016 - 2019 to the EXWC Executive Steering Group. Muilenburg stressed that NAVFAC would still maintain its course and speed while serving its customers. "Our Strategic Design is not a change in direction; rather, it is a sharpening of our strategic focus," said Muilenburg. "It's a way to strengthen our NAVFAC team."
