Braun was made an honorary "colonel of the guard" at the event, where she read the presidential proclamation reaffirming the requirement that the fort fly the Star-Spangled Banner at all times. The event, which coincided with Flag Day, was part of a yearlong celebration where commands around the U.S. host ceremonies to highlight the history of the Navy Reserve and its mission to deliver operational capability, and strategic depth to the Navy, Marine Corps and Joint Services.
