(Sept. 12, 2020) Former Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell, the ship's sponsor, christens the Virginia-class attack submarine USS Montana (SSN 794), Sept. 12, 2020, as the ship's commanding officer, Capt. Michael Delaney, left, and Newport News Shipbuilding president Jennifer Boykin look on. Montana is the second Navy warship bearing the state's name. Construction of Montana began in 2015 under a teaming agreement with Electric Boat. The submarine achieved pressure hull complete earlier this year and is about 85% complete.
