PACIFIC OCEAN (March 24, 2021) U.S. Marine Corps F-35B Lightning II jets with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 211, Marine Aircraft Group 13, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, participate in routine flight operations aboard Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2). This is the first time the F-35B and AV-8B Harrier with Marine Attack Squadron (VMA) 214, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, are training on the same flight deck using Essex as a launch platform. U.S. Navy and Marine Corps integration training provides the Essex Amphibious Ready Group/11th Marine Expeditionary Unit its first opportunity to plan, brief, and execute multiple mission packages.
