THULE AIR BASE, Greenland (April 14, 2021) An aerial photo of an ice camp at Thule Air Base in Greenland used by U.S. Navy Underwater Construction Team (UTC) 1 and Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 1 to conduct arctic exercise missions. The photo shows the “wagon wheel” design that allows the divers to navigate to the hole in the ice while under water. Two circles are cleared at 30 ft. and 60 ft. from the hole with arrows pointing to the spokes that lead back to the entry/exit hole. Engineering Aides from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 1 helped to layout and clear the wagon wheel. UCT 1 and Naval Construction Battalion 1 are completing Arctic exercise missions at Thule Air Base, Greenland. (U.S. Navy photo)
