SASEBO, Japan (Nov. 17, 2021) Sailors assigned to Commander, Fleet Activities Sasebo (CFAS) handle lines as the amphibious dock landing ship USS Rushmore (LSD 47) moors pierside at CFAS, becoming the newest addition to the forward-deployed naval forces (FDNF). The Rushmore relieves another Whidbey Island-class ship, USS Germantown (LSD 42), which departed Sasebo Sept. 15, 2021 after more than a decade of FDNF service.
