Commander Task Force Six (CTF 6) established a temporary Naval Amphibious Force, Task Force 61/2 (TF-61/2), in order to command and control amphibious and expeditionary capabilities on an experimental basis within the the U.S. European Command (EUCOM) and U.S. Africa Command’s (AFRICOM) area of operations (AOO) in order to protect U.S. interests, reassure Allies and Partners, and enable integrated deterrence of adversaries. TF 61/2 is led by the Commander, 2d Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF), Major General Francis Donovan. Forces assigned to TF 61/2 include an Amphibious Ready Group (ARG)/Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) and a Reconassaince/Counter-Reconassisance Force composed of 2d Marine Division elements.
