LCACs transport ship-to-shore personnel, weapons, equipment, and cargo during Marine landing operations. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) and amphibious transport docks Anchorage and USS John P.
