GULF OF ALASKA (May 7, 2023) The urn bearers commit Cmdr. William Skidmore to the deep off the flight deck of the Arleigh Burk-class guided-missile destroyer USS Momsen (DDG 92) during a burial at sea ceremony in the Gulf of Alaska, May 7, 2023, during Exercise Northern Edge 2023. Thousands of U.S. service members, five ships and more than 150 aircraft are participating in Northern Edge 2023 (NE23-1), a joint field training exercise at various locations in and around Alaska. NE23-1 demonstrates the U.S. commitment to the region by building interoperability, multilateral cooperative arrangements with our allies and partners, advancing common interests and ensuring a free and Indo-Pacific region.
