David Burke, former commanding officer of the Ohio-class ballistic-missile submarine USS Rhode Island (SSBN 740) (Gold), with the 2023 Vice Admiral James Bond Stockdale Leadership Award during a ceremony held in the Hall of Heroes at the Pentagon, November 16, 2023. The Stockdale Leadership Award is presented annually to recognize commanding officers, one from the Pacific Fleet and one from the Atlantic Fleet, who demonstrate inspirational leadership, both professionally and personally, while also contributing to the improvement of leadership in the Navy.
