FRCE team saves millions for Marine Corps

Les Smith, an electronics integrated system mechanic on the Beyond Capable Maintenance Interdiction (BCMI) team at the Fleet Readiness Center East detachment on board Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina, works with a radar transmitter from an F/A-18 Hornet. Smith and two other artisans comprise the BCMI team, which provides dedicated service to Marine All Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 224 (VMFA-224), Marine All Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 312 (VMFA-312) and Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 31 (MALS-31) by assisting with component repairs the squadrons are neither resourced nor staffed to complete. The team’s skill in repairing high-value components helped MALS-31 realize a cost avoidance of more than $59 million in 2024.
