Initiating Collaborative Opioid Tapering (Provider Focused)
Defense Health Agency
Nov. 13, 2024 | 35:27
When a provider concludes that the benefits from continued opioid therapy are outweighed by the risks, they must initiate a discussion regarding collaborative tapering. This video provides several examples of how this conversation can be initiated with a patient.
This video was developed by The Defense and Veterans Center for Integrative Pain Management (DVCIPM) under the auspices of the DoD/VA Joint Pain Education Program (JPEP); a project conducted by the DoD/VA Health Executive Committee (HEC) Pain Management Work Group. Content also approved by DHA Pain Management Clinical Support Service (PMCSS) in support of DHA Opioid Prescriber Safety Training (OPST).
