Tomb of the Unknown Soldier centennial ceremony in Châlons-en-Champagne, France
U.S. European Command
Oct. 24, 2021 | 1:33
This year marks the centennial of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. On October 24, 1921, the Unknown Soldier, who died on French soil in WWI, was ceremonially moved from Town Hall in Châlons-en-Champagne, France, to a special train bound for Le Havre. On October 24, 2021, the town of Châlons re-created the historic event to commemorate the 100th anniversary with the participation of the U.S. European Command Joint Color Guard and Soldiers from U.S. Army Europe-Africa. As part of the ceremony, the mayor of Châlons-en-Champagne, Monsieur Benoist Apparu, delivered remarks that included a quote from the mayor a century ago.
