In December 2023, the United States and Kazakhstan celebrate 30 years of nonproliferation partnership under their landmark Umbrella Agreement. The Umbrella Agreement paved the way for cooperation to secure the Semipalatinsk Test Site, after Kazakhstan inherited scores of nuclear material and infrastructure with the fall of the Soviet Union.
