Rear Adm. Wendi Carpenter was the first woman aviator to be promoted to the rank of admiral in the U.S. Navy. She was also the first woman Navy pilot to instruct in the T-44 trainer for the advanced maritime propellor pipeline; one of the first women instructors in the EC-130 aircraft, and the first woman to command the Navy’s Warfare Development Command. Following her retirement, she became the first woman president of the State of New York Maritime College. She is the daughter of an Air Force WWII, Korea and Vietnam veteran. She graduated in 1976 from the University of Georgia and was commissioned in 1978 through OCS.
