Capt. Wistar “Star” Langhorne Hardison, a 1990 Villanova University graduate, became the first black woman to commission through Villanova NROTC. Her first assignment was to U.S. Naval Support Force, Antarctica, as the public affairs officer, becoming the third black naval officer to deploy to the “ice.” She went on to serve in a variety of tours as a general unrestricted line and human resources officer. Hardison retired from the Navy in 2016 after 26 years of service. She now serves as the defense cyber workforce governance program manager at the DOD CIO (2023).
