Senior Chief Daisy Mae Morgan was the first black woman to serve aboard an aircraft carrier, when she reported to USS Lexington (AVT 16) in the summer of 1980. She served three years aboard the carrier. After her active duty career, she became a JROTC instructor at Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Maryland, and was a volunteer at the USO supporting traveling service members at Thurgood Marshall BWI and Ronald Reagan National Airport.
