Aviation Machinist Mate Airman Apprentice Joni Nevarez, was the first woman to graduate from Rescue Swimmer School, in Pensacola, Florida, in April 1989. The school opened in 1984. She reported to her first duty assignment Light Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 30, in Norfolk, Virginia, following the school.
