The guided-missile destroyer USS Nitze (DDG 94) departed Villefranche, France, Dec. 21, after an extended port visit.

While in port, Sailors participated in Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) sponsored events such as a wine tasting in Saint Jeannet and tours of Nice, Eze, Monaco and Monte Carlo.

Quotes:
"Before every port visit, I always tell my Sailors that they need to act as ambassadors for the U.S. in whatever country we visit, and that's exactly what they did over the past few days. In almost every place we went, the local people welcomed us with open arms and were very appreciative of us being there, as well as our support in the fight against ISIL."
- Cmdr. Paul Kaylor, Nitze's commanding officer.

"I really had a great time in Nice. I was able to visit some beautiful churches and check out some of the local tattoo shops. I was also able to talk to my beautiful wife for a while. It was kind of like an early Christmas present."
- Seaman Jake Sannes
