Lynn Chow

In 1993, Lt. Lynn Chow became the first woman Navy gunnery officer aboard a combatant ship. In 1992, Chow volunteered to be part of the first wave of women to serve on cruisers, destroyers, and carriers. Assigned to USS Joseph Hewes (FF 1078), Chow served as auxiliary and electrical officer and subsequently the ship’s gunnery officer. Lt. Chow then served aboard USS Ashland (LSD 48), where she was the first woman to be stationed on that ship. Once again, she served as a gunnery officer. Chow then went onto became the first woman Navy officer to command a fleet combatant training center.
