Camp Lejeune Justice Act Claims

ATTENTION: Due to a lapse in federal funding, the Camp Lejeune Claims Unit employees have been furloughed. You may continue to access the Navy Website as well as the Claims Management Portal at https://clclaims.jag.navy.mil. Claims processing is paused for the duration of the furlough. Additionally, due to the lapse in appropriations, the Treasury Judgment Fund operations have been suspended, and settlement payments will not be disbursed until the shutdown has ended. If you have a settlement offer that may surpass the 60-day response window during the furlough period, please wait to submit your documentation since the CLCU cannot accept or process any settlements until appropriations have been passed. The Department of Justice and the Department of the Navy will review those cases once operations resume to ensure that claimants are not disadvantaged.

The Claims Management Portal is currently undergoing updates. During this time of transition, you may encounter some technical difficulties accessing your claim. You should now be receiving email notifications from NoReply-OJAGCampLejeune@navyjag.onmicrosoft.us if you have a new Portal message. Please add this email address to your safe sender list to ensure you are receiving updates. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we update our Portal to enhance overall system stability and streamline a more user-friendly experience.

CLJA Filing Deadline Has Passed

The filing deadline set forth in the Camp Lejeune Justice Act (CLJA) has passed. For that reason, the Department of the Navy (DON) is no longer accepting new CLJA claims. If you filed your CLJA claim by the August 10, 2024 filing deadline, then please sign in to your Portal account to access your claim.

The CLCU is reviewing all CLJA claims and issuing settlement offers to claimants who have submitted supporting documents. To expedite settlements, DON will accept personal records (e.g., service or employment records) proving at least 30 days of presence at Camp Lejeune, reducing delays from claimants obtaining their official service records. Claimants can still submit additional documentation to support a higher settlement by demonstrating an extended duration of presence beyond 30 days. Camp Lejeune Justice Act

On August 10, 2022, President Biden signed into law the Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act of 2022.

Section 804 of this law is the Camp Lejeune Justice Act (CLJA) of 2022, which allows people — including Veterans — previously exposed to contaminated water at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, to file a new claim with the Department of the Navy.

Individuals may seek relief in Federal court for a claim that is denied, or no decision is made six (6) months after a claim is filed.

2. If an attorney is representing you, direct all inquiries to your attorney for verification. The Justice Department and Navy will not contact you directly and will only contact you through your attorney.
