The Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) announced today the realignment of NAVFAC Northwest, headquartered in Silverdale, Washington, and NAVFAC Southwest, headquartered in San Diego, California, under the Echelon III command of NAVFAC Pacific, headquartered in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. 

Currently, the Northwest and Southwest commands are under the Echelon III command of NAVFAC Atlantic in Norfolk, Virginia.

“This realignment will yield better communications and coordination between our NAVFAC enterprise, our NAVFAC Pacific commander and the United States Pacific Fleet and Fleet Marine Forces Pacific organizations operating from the west coast of the United States,” said Rear Adm. Bret Muilenburg, commander, NAVFAC and chief of Civil Engineers.  

The NAVFAC Pacific commander also serves as the Pacific Fleet Civil Engineer.

The realignment is expected to level the span of control for NAVFAC Pacific and Atlantic as well as create a larger pool of engineering professionals with more knowledge of and a deeper connection to the Pacific Region area of responsibility in support of national and Navy strategies.

No change to existing facilities support to Commander, Navy Installations Command, or the Marine Corps Installations Command is expected as a result of this realignment.

“This realignment will be deliberately planned, seamlessly executed and should be transparent to our supported commands and, to the greatest extent possible, in the delivery of NAVFAC product and services,” said Rear Adm. John J. Adametz, commander, NAVFAC Pacific.

The realignment process will begin today and is expected to be complete by Oct. 1, 2019.
