Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southeast awarded a $16.1 million contract, Nov. 16, to EMR, Inc. of Niceville, Florida to renovate the Colmer Dining Facility at Naval Construction Battalion Center (NCBC) Gulfport, Mississippi.
The project will repair the existing dining facility for enlisted personnel, building 367.
“This project will have significant positive impact on the quality of life of all service members in Gulfport, since this is the only enlisted dining facility at NCBC Gulfport and 'A' school students rely on this facility exclusively for meals,” said Chief Warrant Officer James Reid, Colmer Dining Facility food services officer.
Colmer Dining Facility will be reconfigured to accommodate approximately 2,184 personnel, with the main dining room accommodating 495 sitting diners. Additional space will be built to accommodate additional capacity, which will meet cold storage requirements. All major systems will also be replaced, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, sprinkler system and communication systems.
Reid said temporary accommodations for meals will be located in building 261, near the base fitness center, until the renovated facility is complete.
NCBC Gulfport’s dining facility was constructed in 1974 and has not had a complete renovation yet. It is currently operating beyond its capacity, and is undersized for the current population it serves and does not meet the Unified Facilities Criteria.
The project is anticipated to be completed by November 2021.
The renovations made to the Colmer Dining Facility at NCBC Gulfport will improve the quality of life for its enlisted personnel and "A" school students, which will ultimately enhance mission readiness in support of the Navy’s mission. Providing the Navy’s southeast region’s installations with exceptional cost-effective facilities in a timely manner is a top priority at NAVFAC Southeast.
