From Chief of Naval Personnel Public Affairs

Sailors who speak Italian or Polish now have an opportunity to take the Defense Language Proficiency Test Five (DLPT5) using Web Based Field Testing (WBFT) from Feb. 28 to June 1.
Sailors who speak Italian or Polish now have an opportunity to take the Defense Language Proficiency Test Five (DLPT5) using Web Based Field Testing (WBFT) from Feb. 28 to June 1.

WBFT, an avenue to determine lower range listening and reading comprehension, uses a data-collection interface that is designed and delivered by the Office of People Analytics through its secure web-delivery environment. User experience is similar to that of the operational DLPT5. WBFT will accelerate the process of DLPT5 development and provide DLPT5 field-testing opportunities to more personnel.

Examinees will be given up to three hours to complete each test form, plus additional time to provide feedback. Upon completion, Sailors will be provided their score and encouraged to make additional appointments to complete the other available test forms, if applicable to the language they are being tested in.

WBFT is also available for French, Spanish, Persian-Farsi, Arabic, Chinese Mandarin, Burmese, German, Tagalog, and many others. Participants will be able to request and receive a certificate of appreciation signed by the Assistant Commandant of the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center. Additional WBFT will be available later in the year and the Navy Foreign Language Office will keep the Fleet informed on upcoming languages.

If you have any WBFT questions, please contact the Defense Language Institute at wbft@dliflc.edu, or the Navy Foreign Language Office at altn_n13f1@navy.mil.
