Ten Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training (CNATT) Sailors and Marines participated in a Habitat for Humanity volunteer effort, May 19, in Century, Florida.

The service members helped build and erect the four exterior walls of a home during the day-long volunteer effort.

According to volunteer organizer and CNATT Support Equipment Integrated Product Lead U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Paul Bourgeois, the opportunity to engage in a worthwhile effort in a neighboring community which has suffered significant disastrous circumstances over the past few years is important.

"Being able to help out individuals in need is something that we as service members should always embrace," he said. "We're here to not only do our jobs, but to be good stewards in the community. We live here as well, and these are our neighbors."

Century was devastated by an EF-3 tornado in February 2016, and Bourgeois said the CNATT Top Three have participated in five Habitat for Humanity projects since then.

Bourgeois added that all Habitat for Humanity projects in which the CNATT Top Three participate are carefully coordinated through the AmeriCorps volunteer coordinator for the Pensacola, Florida area Habitat for Humanity.

Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit housing organization working in nearly 1,400 communities across the United States and in approximately 70 countries around the world, to create affordable housing through volunteer efforts and donations. According to the organization's website, Habitat for Humanity has helped build or repair more than 600,000 houses and served more than 3 million people around the world.

CNATT is a technical training agent for the Naval Aviation Enterprise, an organization designed to advance and sustain naval aviation warfighting capabilities at an affordable cost, and is the largest training center under Naval Education and Training Command.
