Naval forces from Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway, the United Kingdom and the United States concluded the NATO Allied Maritime Command-led exercise Dynamic Mongoose 2017, in the North Atlantic Ocean, July 6, 2017.

The exercise enhanced anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capabilities and increased theater ASW capacity among the navies that participated using realistic training.

"Dynamic Mongoose provided us the opportunity to engage in realistic maritime training," said Cmdr. Allen Siegrist, commanding officer, USS James E. Williams (DDG 95). "We enjoyed working with our NATO allies, and I am extremely proud of the way the crew performed during this exercise."

Dynamic Mongoose 2017 also served to build interoperability and strengthened the enduring relationships among allied forces that participated.

"Dynamic Mongoose was an important exercise to sharpen and enhance our anti-submarine warfare capabilities with our NATO allies in the challenging maritime environment of the North Atlantic," said Rear Adm. Daryl Caudle, deputy commander, U.S. 6th Fleet. "This exercise demonstrates our ability to conduct anti-submarine warfare and prepares us to respond to emerging threats. Simply stated, Dynamic Mongoose improves our lethality in submarine warfare and ensures that we will maintain freedom of movement in the undersea domain."

Dynamic Mongoose 17 highlighted the inherent flexibility of maritime forces demonstrating theater ASW proficiency and provided the right presence where needed, when it was needed.

A Los Angeles-class fast attack submarine, James E. Williams, a P-8A Poseidon, and two P-3C Orions were U.S. assets that participated in the exercise.
