NAVFAC Southwest Marine Corps Integrated Product Team and Facilities Engineering Acquisition Division at Camp Pendleton attended a groundbreaking for the Communications Information System (CIS) Operations Complex project April 5 in Camp Pendleton.

"My team could not have done anything on this without your help," said Pete Copeland, AC/S (MCI WEST G6) for Marine Corps Region and Camp Pendleton. "This is a critical project for the G6. From the MILCONs that I've seen in the last three to four years, none are more important than this to Camp Pendleton, to the G6 Department, and to the region. Everything we do homes out through Camp Pendleton. We are the hub. This is very important."

Contractor Bethel-Webcor hosted the groundbreaking to kick-off construction of Marine Corps Installation West G6 communication facility at MCB Camp Pendleton.

The goal and intent for this military construction (MILCON) is to provide supported commands at the base with a critical and consolidated CIS complex with telephone, radio and data communications infrastructure required to support the existing infrastructure requirements and to meet the increased communications needs of MCB Camp Pendleton. The G6 department is the communications hub for all communications needs at the base and is responsible for secure messaging for the entire Pacific Theater, which requires that the communications equipment remain fully operational at all times. In addition, G6 is responsible for outfitting all non-tactical vehicles in the MCB Camp Pendleton fleet with communications equipment and material.

NAVFAC Southwest awarded a $69.9 million CIS Operations Complex contract on March 24, 2016 to Bethel-Webcor (a joint venture) and is scheduled to be completed Jan. 23, 2020. The MILCON project will include construction of a host switch and data server farm building facility, maintenance and cable supply warehouse, two area distribution nodes, a communication duct bank and cabling, and communication duct bank and cabling infrastructure connecting to the new CIS Operations Complex.

The site has been designed to minimally impact the site, take advantage of solar energy and provides a contemplation cove with a September 11 Memorial centered around a piece from the New York City World Trade Center Twin Towers.
