A team of Navy Medicine ambassadors from the Washington, D.C. metro area are scheduled to visit Des Moines, Iowa to participate in Navy Week, Aug. 15-17.

Capt. Jonathan Haun, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Medical Analysis Branch will lead the team to engage with the Des Moines community and share the Navy Medicine mission.

"I'm excited to visit Iowa and talk to the people of Des Moines," said Haun. "I grew up in the Oregon countryside, which is similar to Des Moines, where patriotism is deeply rooted."

The Navy Medicine ambassadors will begin their portion of Navy Week Aug. 15 appearing with other Navy assets at scheduled community events at the Walnut Creek YMCA, and visits to the Children's Hospital and the South Suburban YMCA.

"We have a busy schedule in Des Moines, which will give us the chance to reach a lot of the community," said Cmdr. Dan Hoey, Navy Medicine ambassador. "The Navy doesn't have a huge presence in Des Moines, so it will be an excellent occasion to reach out to the local community and highlight our Navy Medicine mission that supports them and the nation."

Hosted by the Navy Office of Community Outreach, Des Moines Navy Week will run Aug. 15-21. Navy Medicine is partnering with Sailors from across the Navy to participate in more than 50 outreach events coordinated with corporate, civic, government, education, media, veterans, community service and diversity organizations in Des Moines. These efforts allow the Des Moines community to meet the men and women of the U.S. Navy.

Navy Medicine is a global health care network of 63,000 personnel who provide health care support to the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, their families and veterans in high operational tempo environments, at expeditionary medical facilities, medical treatment facilities, hospitals, clinics, hospital ships and research units around the world.
