The All American Restaurant (AAR) opened their doors to all personnel and spouses during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Naval Base Kitsap (NBK) - Bremerton, Jan. 22.

The AAR is managed by NBK's Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) and is open to all eligible patrons, including family members, Department of Defense civilians, retirees and contractors.

"A galley was never sustainable here at NBK-Bremerton in the past," said Command Master Chief David Lynch, of NBK. "When our carriers go underway, a lot of the galley's customers leave too and it seems the galley goes to waste."

The AAR opened their doors as a soft opening early January and has since served 2,463 "hearty, wholesome" meals.

"I appreciate the coordination between Navy Region Northwest, Naval Base Kitsap Public Works, Naval Base Kitsap [Fleet & Family Readiness], our contractors from Washington Patriot and our customers from the various commands that have made it a success," said Capt. Tom Zwolfer, NBK commanding officer. "I'm excited about the opening of the restaurant/galley. It provides a location on base to give everybody a good meal."

The building the restaurant resides in was formerly the Naval Station Bremerton Galley and then the Naval Base Kitsap Evergreen Inn Galley and has been in lay up for several years.

"It has been a very rewarding experience working with the NBK team in the entire process of getting the AAR up and running," said Chester Vance, NBK's installation program manager. "I'm glad to see returning smiling faces and workers and service members coming in the restaurant in the evening with their spouses."

The demand for fresh, homemade, nutritious culinary options has been huge coming from ships and boats at Naval Base Kitsap.

"It is our hope this will be a place that welcomes all and serves all guests and delights them with the ambiance of the facility, the quality of the food and high quality costumer service," said Lynne Flynn.

The AAR is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner on weekends and offers brunch and supper on weekends.
