NAVELSG to Host Change of Command Ceremony

Navy Expeditionary Logistics Support Group (NAVELSG) will hold a change of command ceremony June 4 at Naval Weapons Station Yorktown/Cheatham Annex.

During the event, Rear Adm. Valerie K. Huegel will be relieved by Rear Adm. Keith M. Jones as commander of the logistics support group.

To highlight the significance of the command, the event will be held at the crane training site with pedestal cranes and other pieces of specialized equipment used by cargo handlers with the group framing the ceremony.

Huegel has served as the commander of NAVELSG since September 2013.

During her time as commander Huegel directed combat support services capabilities in support of Operation Enduing Freedom. Huegel's next assignment is with Director, U.S. Central Command Deployment and Distribution Operations Center in Kuwait.

Jones is currently serving as reserve director, Logistics Programs and Business Operations. His previous assignment was as commander Navy Expeditionary Logistics Support Group Forward Mike where he also served as the commander, U.S. 5th Fleet Task Group 56.3 at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Huegel and Jones serve in the Navy Reserve and have served command both as reservist and active duty Sailors.

In his civilian career Jones works as the manager, Corporate Diversity and Inclusion for Toyota Motor Corp. Huegel works for the Florida Dept. of Environmental Protection as director, Policy and Stakeholder Coordination.

NAVELSG is homeported in Williamsburg, Virginia, with an active battalion located at Cheatham Annex; with forward-deployed detachments and reserve battalions located across the United States. NAVELSG provides Sailors with the knowledge and skills needed to support the fleet's surface and air-handling mission. More than 100 Sailors and civilians work hand in hand with the fleet and are dedicated to ensuring training is current and well executed on behalf of 2,800 active duty and reserve Sailors in the administration, logistics and training of their active and reserve components'.
