After successfully completing a 10-month Western Pacific deployment aboard the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN) 70, the Navy's C-2A Greyhound, Fleet Logistics Support Squadron (VRC) 30 Det. 1 soared home on June 3.

"Comprised of 45 Sailors operating and maintaining two aircraft, VRC-30 Det. 1 is a small team that accomplished big things," said Lt. Cmdr. Trevor Hermann, VRC-30 Det. 1 officer in charge. This was indeed the case. While deployed with Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 17 aboard (CVN 70), they flew 724 combat logistics sorties in direct support of Operation Inherent Resolve, ultimately transporting 7,966 passengers along with 33 life-saving medical evacuations and supplying more than 1,000,000 pounds of high priority cargo and mail.

Providing a high-demand service with only two aircraft required constant vigilance, unwavering dedication, and technical acumen. It was a tremendous task, but the aircrew and maintainers excelled in that dynamic environment. Producing two dependable, mission capable aircraft on a consistent basis for 10 months earned their team the 2015 CVW-17 "Golden Wrench" Award for maintenance excellence.

Hermann said, "We completed 96 percent of our scheduled sorties while deployed. For a two month period, we not only provided support to our carrier (CVN 70), but we also supported the French aircraft carrier FS Charles de Gaulle."

After a long, but successful deployment, Det. 1 returns back home to VRC-30, stationed on Naval Air Station North Island at Coronado, California. VRC-30 is home to approximately 300 Sailors, twelve C-2A Greyhounds, and five detachments, one of which is always forward deployed.
