Four employees tested positive for COVID-19, Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) announced today.

These cases have been reported to the State of California and are not additional cases.

All four employees sought medical assessment after exhibiting key respiratory symptoms, were tested and are undergoing self-quarantine in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines.

Personnel with whom these employees have had close contact were notified and are in self-isolation, in accordance with CDC guidelines.

Military health professionals are conducting a thorough contact investigation to determine whether any other personnel may have been in close contact and possibly exposed. Depending on the results of that investigation, additional measures may be taken.

The areas where the staff members worked were aggressively sanitized using CDC guidelines. NMCSD continues to implement increased cleaning measures throughout the hospital, and continues to cooperate with appropriate public health and regulatory agencies.

NMCSD remains open and continues its mission of providing safe, high quality patient care, while taking all measures available to protect its patients, visitors and staff.

NMCSD reminds its patients and staff of the importance of adhering to the preventive actions recommended by the CDC and Defense Health Agency.
