From Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Tristin Barth

U.S. and Japanese navies conduct joint maritime operations.

The fleet replenishment oiler USNS Pecos (T-AO 197) and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) ship JS Suzutsuki (DD 117) conducted a cooperative deployment focused on replenishment-at-sea training Apr. 16.

"Working alongside our JMSDF partners provided both crews an outstanding opportunity to enhance logistical capabilities while strengthening our existing partnership," said Military Sealift Command Capt. Garth L. Kirk, Pecos’ master.

The U.S. Navy regularly operates with allies and partners, both bilaterally and multilaterally to promote security and stability throughout the region. Pecos provides logistical support to U.S. Navy and allied forces operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility.

Commander, Logistics Group Western Pacific/CTF 73 provides combat-ready logistics to the U.S. 7th Fleet and is the executive agent for more than 20 bilateral and multilateral security cooperation exercises with partner nations throughout the Indo-Pacific.
