Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) headquarters participated in the 27th annual Bring Your Child to Work Day onboard Naval Support Activity (NSA) Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, April 25. The event gives children a chance to see what kind of jobs their parents have and exposes tomorrow's workforce to the federal workplace.

“We think it’s awesome,” said Colleen Formica, Program Analyst for NAVSUP headquarters. “It gives my kids a better appreciation of what the military does for us.”

Many children came to NSA to see the significant impact their parents contribute to support the Department of Defense and the Navy.

“This is our third year and we really enjoy it,” said NAVSUP Weapons Systems Support Contracting Officer Laura Klinger. “We went around and did the different activities, it’s good that the kids have more to do than just sit with me at my desk.”

The children participated in many activities, including Fitness and Mobility, Earth Day, Video Production, Computer Security/Forensics, and Navy/Marine Boot Camp. They also had the chance to visit other tenant activities and visit NSA’s firehouse.

Children and their sponsors took the opportunity to learn about nutrition as Nutrition Program Manager Jennifer Person-Whippo held two briefings centered on the food children need to eat.

“Be sure to read the labels and make smart selection choices," Person-Whippo said. “Labels have changed in the past year, now they include the calorie content, but be aware of how many servings are in the calorie content.

“Instead of drinking the fruit juice, choose the actual fruit, this is a better choice,” she explained to the children.

Headquartered in Mechanicsburg and employing a diverse, worldwide workforce of more than 22,500 military and civilian personnel, NAVSUP's mission is to provide supplies, services, and quality-of-life support to the Navy and joint warfighter.

“It’s nice for the kids to see the uniformed military members working in offices side-by-side with the civilians,” said Formica.
