A U.S. Naval Hospital Guantanamo Bay (USNH GB) Corpsman successfully completed the Corpsman Trauma Training Program at Lovell Federal Health Care Center, recently. Hospital Corpsman Marvin Fowler was hand selected and nominated to attend the course based on his superior performance.

"If you want to see a corpsman who is excited about medicine and what he can do, look no further than HN Fowler," said Cmdr. Christa Robinson, USNH GB director of medical services. “He has established himself as an invaluable asset to this department.”

Fowler completed 62 hours of didactic and practical skills in topics ranging from tactical combat casualty care, trauma care concepts and burn management before starting clinical rotations, according to the FHCC webpage.

“I had the opportunity to do a cardiac massage after the trauma surgeon completed a right thoracotomy,” he explained with excitement. Fowler said the course exposed him to very high stress medical situations and taught him how to effectively address them.

According to Fowler, this training enhanced his skill set and enlightened him on how important his job is to the well-being of patients.

“Having a skill like starting an IV can make the difference between vital signs going from critical to stable during trauma resuscitation,” he said.

Fowler was proud to say the USNH GB has always provided the best patient care, adding the training he received and was able to share with fellow corpsman will enable the team to continue to do so.

USNH GB embraces providing world-class care by maintaining a reputation for sustaining one of the highest patient satisfaction rates of any military treatment facility in the Navy. The patient population of approximately 6,000 includes military family members, government civilian employees and their families, special category residents, contractors, foreign nationals and migrants.
