Naval Medical Center San Diego’s (NMCSD) patient relations department received the satisfaction ratings for both inpatient and outpatient care according to the TRICARE inpatient satisfaction survey (TRISS) and the joint outpatient experience surveys (JOES) for the third quarter, fiscal year 2019, Oct. 4.
The command exceeded all 10 Military Health System benchmarks for the overall hospital category and the surgical and medical product lines.
The surgical product line reached the 75th percentile in all 10 metrics, and the 90th percentile in seven metrics.
“Patient feedback via the TRISS surveys is very important, as patients are ultimately the judge of how well we provide both care and service,” said Jeff Apana, NMCSD’s patient relations department head. “We need to know how we are doing through their eyes and experiences.”
TRISS surveys measure inpatient satisfaction of recently discharged patients about aspects of their patient experience. Survey results are used by the command to both recognize excellence and to improve service areas that need improvement.
NMCSD’s mission is to prepare service members to deploy in support of operational forces, deliver high quality healthcare services, and shape the future of military medicine through education, training and research. NMCSD employs more than 6,000 active duty military personnel, civilians and contractors in Southern California to provide patients with world-class care anytime, anywhere.
