Members of Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Pacific received recognition and command coins from U.S. Special Operations Command Pacific Commander General Jonathan Braga during an October all hands held at its headquarters on Camp Smith, Hawaii.

The fire assessment team, which consisted of Lloyd Hiromoto (Public Works), Shayne Hubbard (Capital Improvements), Steffen Teichmann (Capital Improvements) and Emric Katada (Safety) were recognized for their swift and exceptional performance while conducting a recent fire assessment in Zamboanga, Philippines.

NAVFAC Pacific is in charge of managing the Philippine Operational Support Contract (POSC), which is an Operating Support contract that provides critical life support to warfighters operating in the Philippines. 

The NAVFAC Pacific team conducted electrical assessments on Camp Navarro and several outstations. Some of the critical life support provided to the service members on Camp Navarro included, but not limited to, billeting, transportation, facilities maintenance, water, sewer and electrical power services.

“I’m extremely proud of my team who volunteered on such short notice to support our warfighters abroad,” said Hiromoto, POSC contracting officer representative. “Within 24 hours they were ready to travel to support and ensure the safety of our military forces on Camp Navarro. While there, they assessed other areas in the vicinity and provided timely feedback to military leadership.”

This was the first time for electrical engineers Shayne Hubbard and Steffen Teichmann to conduct an assessment in the Philippines.

Teichmann said the assessment he and his team did will help keep the service members safe.

“They were working around repeated and seemingly minor electrical deficiencies, which can lead to fires or shock hazards” said Teichmann. “It was a good experience and I look forward to supporting the warfighters there again in the future.”

Hubbard shared a similar experience during the assessment visit. 

“This experience was humbling for me, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to support our forces overseas,” said Hubbard. “I believe the team did a great job delivering a quality assessment report and out-brief in a timely manner. I’m confident NAVFAC is able to rise to the occasion again in the future.”
