17 January 2019

From Javani G. Jones

NAVSUP FLC Bahrain delivered 71,000 parcels weighing more than 195,000 pounds during the month of December.

From Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day, the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Bahrain Postal Division closed out its busiest holiday mailing season to date. With an increase of online shopping, mail operations during the holidays proved to be an action-packed time of the year.

During the month of December, the finance clerks accepted over 7,450 parcels for mailing. Clerks collected over $103,000 in revenue while receiving and delivering 71,000 incoming parcels weighing more than 195,000 pounds.

"This year was really busy. We had great teamwork and worked well together," said Mr. Gokul Thazahakuniyil, mail clerk, NAVSUP FLC Bahrain, after completing his 21st year working the holiday season.

The Fleet Mail Center, which serves as the only mail hub in the region, was also busy processing over 450,000 pounds of mail for the 5th Fleet including the USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) and USS Essex (LHD-2) deployed strike groups. More than 1,100 tri-walls of mail were built and expedited for pier-side deliveries and in-port replenishments in Bahrain, Oman, and United Arab Emirates. The Fleet Mail Center also ensured all mail on hand was received and delivered to downrange customers in Iraq and Afghanistan before Christmas.

NAVSUP FLC Bahrain saw a steady stream of customers coming in daily to ensure friends and families around the world received their gifts on time. In order to support the increased demand and ensure that all forward deployed Sailors and their families received exceptional customer service, the post office extended customer service hours by two additional hours each day and remained open for business seven days a week.

“Overall, a very successful season.  No major delays and no wet mail received!  The customers seemed very happy knowing they could pick up their mail seven days a week,” said Timothy Lynch, postal director, NAVSUP FLC Bahrain.  “Kudos from our customers helped keep the team morale high. This team is fantastic! They are always smiling and always go the extra mile to make sure we are taken care of.”
