Training Support Center’s (TSC) Great Lakes, Coalition of Sailors Against Destructive Decisions (CSADD) Sailors holds a variety show to draw attention to dating violence in conjunction with Teen Dating Violence Awareness month, Feb. 28.
Singers, dancers, musicians, and poets showed their talents for a good cause. Naval Station Great Lakes (NSTC) Executive Officer Cmdr. Omar Martinez, NSTC Command Master Chief Sam Robinson, Navy Recruiting District Chicago Command Master Chief Deshawn Carter, TSC Great Lakes Lt. Jace Myer, TSC Navy Military Training Instructor Master Chief Hull Maintenance Technician Orlando Garcia, and Navy Band Great Lakes Assistant Director Master Chief Musician Jason Gromaki judged the competition naming Seaman Electronics Technician Alan Watkins as winner over 17 competitors for his rap skills.
“Tonight was a very successful night,” said Seaman Electronics Technician Christopher Baswell, CSADD president. “Not only did we get together to have some fun; we were able to deliver a message about the horrible issue of dating violence. We are all committed to stand against dating violence when we see it. Being a victim of dating violence is not the fault of the victim. Nothing you say, wear, or do gives anyone the right to hurt you.”
Fleet and Family Support Center was present at the event to give out information and answer questions on the subject. Among the very important services they provide counseling and victim assistance, exceptional family member support, information and referrals, and programs to promote quality of life for military personnel and their families.
"The award winning Coalition of Sailors Against Destructive Decisions Great Lakes Chapter did a wonderful job organizing the variety show," said Capt. David Dwyer, commanding officer of TSC. "It is always good to see the amazing talents our Sailors have, and watch them get loose and have some fun. CSADD did a great job working with Fleet and Family Support Center to bring the issue of dating violence to the forefront. It is everyone's responsibility to look out for your fellow shipmates to help prevent this forum of abuse. More importantly, for our Sailors to realize that they are not alone, and if they need help, they have multiple avenues to turn to for assistance."
CSADD Sailors promote positive choices and develop leadership through organizing local social networks, facilitating discussion, producing visual messages, promoting community involvement and hosting recreational events.
